Birthday Breakfast - Dad, did you ever work in a restaurant?
The biggest compliment came out of our newest young adult in the Leavitt household this morning when I cooked breakfast for Aaron to celebrate his 18th birthday. The menu featured fresh cooked bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes, and our famous Mountain-Man omelette.
What is in a Mountain-Man omelette you ask? First, you start off with cooked hash browns and then crack a couple of eggs over the top, dob on a few large gobs of sour cream, add some grated cheese and then integrate some of the diced sausage links while breaking in some cooked bacon. Stir all of this together and the heat from the hot hash browns helps to cook the egg and sour cream. Once it is ready then you sprinkle on some salt and pepper with more grated cheese to melt over the top. Typically it is prepared in a huge Dutch oven to feed a dozen or more hungry campers, but this morning it was just for Aaron, Shelly, and I.
Yes, we just woke Aaron up from a long night's rest. His big compliment came when he asked, "Dad, did you ever work in a restaurant?" "No, I never worked in a restaurant, son", I responded. Then Aaron added, "Well you could have, Dad. This is really good!"
