Cindy - My Long Lost 3rd Grade Friend
Cindy, you were always one the the tiniest, cutest, and happiest schoolmates in both grade school and junior high. I can remember your smile as early as the third grade at Toland Way Elementary School. I was much too shy to talk to any girl in 3rd grade but I remember your smile continued on all the way through my last saying good-bye in 1976. I inquired about your whereabouts on our Washington Irving 1970's Facebook Group and Grace shared that she was still in contact with you. I was so glad to learn that you still have contact with some of the members of our Class of 1976 and didn't just disappear like so many others.
I was so sad to hear that you had recently lost your Mother. If she was anything like my Mother, then I know how deep your love for her extends. Until you are reunited beyond the veil, I hope that you are able to capture those memories and life experiences to keep her close in your heart and fresh in your mind. I am sure that a lot of your kindness and ability to love came from your Mother's influence.
FACEBOOK GROUP - A couple of years ago I learned of the passing of one of our fellow Irving classmates, Yvette Burton, and I decided to create a Facebook Group specifically geared at reuniting friendships from the past. Whether or not you are part of Facebook, I invite you to visit the Facebook Group and share some thoughts. Take a look at the nearly 200 members and I am sure that you will see some happy faces from the past that would also love to hear from you. You can find the group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/Irving1970s/. It has been so fun to find out how others have been in the nearly 40 years since we left Irving and went our separate ways. It would be fun to learn the path that you took and what you are up to today!
For fun, I went back and looked up what you had to say in your send-off autograph to me when we graduated 9th grade. It is revealing of your kindness then...
"Mike, may you always have success in all projects you enter & happiness brighten all the days of life. You are very cute & very nice. You have a joke for everything. It's been really nice knowing you since third grade. I'm going to miss you very much. I hope we'll see each other in the future. Good Luck, Love, Cindy K "76"
BTW Cindy, That has got to be the biggest swooping "L" in history! :-)
EAST LA YEARS - Cindy, I also created a website www.EastLAYears.com where I have been capturing some of the memories, pictures, and experiences of my years growing up in Glassell Park, California. I also scanned all 3 of our Irving Knickerbockers and placed them online at that site. It you have a few moments, stop by and check it out.
If you have any photos and/or specific memories of the era to share, then please send them along to me at Michael@TheHomeInspector.com. I am living in Orem, Utah with my lovely wife Shelly and family. Our youngest of 4, Aaron, is a senior in high school. We also have four wonderful grandkids with hopefully many more to come. I can be found at either www.MichaelD.Leavitt.com or at my business site www.TheHomeInspector.com.
I look forward to hearing more from you.
Your friend, Michael Leavitt - Orem, Utah
